COMPUTER GAMES

I play a lot of these - in short bursts! For relaxation in between projects mostly, when I need to clear my mind.

My all-time favourite is - and, I suspect, will remain - Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine.

It has no "HOS" (Hidden Object Scenes). These can sometimes get right up my nose. And some games are nothing but HOS! It has to be said, though, that I have never completed this game without reference to a walkthrough, or a handy switching to "God Mode" where you don't die, no matter how stupid you are. But be warned, if you do use the God Mode, don't end up in a place where escape is impossible, like at the bottom of a lava pit that is designed to kill you, no matter what mode you are in. This, because you will find yourself wandering around this sea of molten lava - not dying, for sure - but with absolutely no place to take your "life"! The only route out of that situation is a restart. You don't even get the opportunity to save your game. That said, it's a really satisfying game. But right up there along with it is The Curse of Monkey Island.

This one really floats my boat. It's amusing a well as tricky...ditto on the walkthrough, though.

Both of these games are huge, taking you everywhere, doing everything with everybody using everything. Bags of interest and just the right level of puzzles.

Just recently I played another great game. MACHINARIUM.

This one is very different from anything I've ever laid mouse on. The "net" is singing its praises, and so am I! There are no instructions whatsoever, you just dive into it and sort it out yourself. I loved it.

Here's another game that I enjoyed playing.

No HOS at all! Plenty of interest, with some tricky situations. You need some lateral-thinking here, and I have only a limited amount of that stuff, so I had to go to the net for help from time to time.

Both the Ravenhearst games are great. Instead of HOS, they have "item-morphing", which I found interesting and novel.

Another great game with bags of interest and tricky situations.
